In the heart of Berlin, the (ISNB) International School of Nursing Berlin is pioneering a new approach to nursing education that focuses on diversity and inclusion. The article “For Health Promotion”, written by Jane Saidi, Dr. Petra Narimani and trainees from classes G2/G3, G1 and G4, appears in the September 2023 issue of the journal “Für Gesundheitsförderung” of the Landesvereinigung für Gesundheit und Akademie für Sozialmedizin Niedersachsen Bremen e. V. (Vol. 120, ISSN 1438-6666).
The article shows how the ISNB meets the urgent need for highly qualified specialists in the care sector.
The school strives to recognize and nurture the unique talents and backgrounds of its nursing students from over 26 countries by creating a supportive learning environment in which each student’s potential can be fully realized.
According to the authors, this ethos is not just about the technical aspects of nursing, but also about ensuring that student nurses have the emotional and legal support they need to overcome the challenges of adapting to a new country and culture.
The ISNB curriculum goes beyond the conventional to foster a deep understanding of different cultures, languages and the complicated dynamics of migration and health opportunities.
Through regular discussions about rejection, discrimination and racism, the school encourages student nurses to share their experiences and learn from each other, building a community of future nurses who are not only professionally competent, but also compassionate and culturally sensitive.
This innovative approach has led to the development of a number of aspirations and proposals from student nurses aimed at enriching the nursing profession and contributing to healthcare and economic growth in Germany.
These initiatives underscore the belief that diversity and mutual understanding can lead to more holistic and patient-centered healthcare solutions.
The ISNB continues to advocate for a welcoming culture for foreign nursing trainees, setting a precedent for how educational institutions can play a crucial role in shaping the future of healthcare by putting diversity at the center.
